In Pasadena and southeast Houston, many families work without health insurance and put off seeing a doctor until the problem can no longer wait. It does not have to be that way. At Clínica Hispana Corazón y Vida we see uninsured patients every day, with direct prices and no insurance paperwork. This guide explains how it works and which other options are within your reach.
Can I see a doctor without insurance?
Yes. Our clinic does not ask for insurance, a policy number or a referral. You pay for the service you receive, in cash or by card, and you know the price before you see the provider. We take walk-ins every day from 9 AM to 9 PM, at 918 W Southmore Ave, Suite 180.
Which services can I get on a self-pay basis?
- General consultations and follow-up for diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol.
- Blood and urine tests with results we review with you.
- Gynecology, pregnancy testing and contraception.
- Physicals for work, school, DOT and immigration.
- Vaccines, IV vitamin drips, wound care and minor surgery.
- Treatment of urinary, respiratory and sexually transmitted infections.
If your case needs a specialist or a study we do not perform here, we tell you plainly and point you in the right direction.
How do I know what I will pay?
Ask for the price at the front desk or on WhatsApp at (346) 646-2974 before the visit. If the provider recommends an additional test or treatment, you are told the cost before it is done. Nobody leaves with a surprise bill.
Clinic or emergency room?
The emergency room is for life-threatening situations: chest pain, trouble breathing, bleeding that will not stop, loss of consciousness or a serious injury. For fever, flu, infections, sore throat, small wounds, blood pressure or sugar checks and routine exams, a walk-in clinic solves the problem the same day at a fraction of a hospital's cost. When in doubt, call us and we will tell you where to go.
How do I spend less on health care without insurance?
- Don't wait. A urinary infection treated early is one visit; untreated, it can reach the kidneys and end in the hospital.
- Manage chronic conditions. With diabetes or high blood pressure, follow-up every three to six months prevents costly complications.
- Ask for generics. Most pharmacies in the area keep low-cost generic lists; we prescribe them whenever the option exists.
- Get vaccinated. Preventing flu, tetanus or hepatitis costs less than treating them.
- Keep your results. Bringing previous lab work avoids repeating tests.
Which public programs exist in the area?
- Harris Health System. Pasadena is in Harris County; low-income residents can apply for its financial assistance program (Gold Card) to receive care at county hospitals and clinics.
- Texas Medicaid and CHIP. They cover children and some pregnant women based on income; applications go through YourTexasBenefits.com.
- Community health centers (FQHC). They charge on a sliding scale and accept uninsured patients.
These programs have requirements and waiting times. While they are processed, you can be seen here with no paperwork.
What about my children?
Uninsured children can receive consultations, school and sports physicals, and care for common illnesses here. For childhood vaccines, ask the front desk what is available at the moment and which public options exist for your child's age.
Your rights as an uninsured patient
You have the right to know the price before the service, to a clear explanation of your diagnosis, to a copy of your results, and to have your health information handled privately, with or without insurance.
If it has been a while since you saw a doctor, start with a checkup. Walk in or message us on WhatsApp at (346) 646-2974 and we will tell you what to expect. If this is your first time, read what a visit at our clinic is like.
