Ingrown Toenail Removal

Ingrown toenail treatment in Pasadena, TX: removal of the ingrown portion under local anesthesia, infection treatment and prevention advice. Walk in.

An ingrown toenail starts as discomfort when putting on shoes and ends as a red, swollen toe with pus that makes walking hard. At Clínica Hispana Corazón y Vida in Pasadena we remove the portion of nail digging into the skin under local anesthesia, treat the infection and explain how to keep it from coming back, without an appointment and in Spanish.

When should I come in?

  • Pain at the edge of the nail that worsens with shoes.
  • Redness, swelling or pus on the side of the toe.
  • Fleshy tissue growing over the edge of the nail.
  • An ingrown nail that recurs even with careful trimming.
  • Any ingrown toenail if you have diabetes or poor circulation, because it gets infected easily.

In early stages, without pus, warm soaks and a bit of cotton under the edge are sometimes enough; if it does not improve in a few days, it needs treatment.

What is the procedure like?

  1. Review of the toe, the nail and your history: diabetes, circulation, previous episodes.
  2. Local anesthesia at the base of the toe; the pinch is all you feel.
  3. Removal of the ingrown portion of the nail and cleaning of the inflamed tissue.
  4. When the nail has become ingrown several times, a treatment is applied to the root of that edge so it does not grow into the skin again.
  5. Dressing, antibiotics if there is infection and written instructions.

The procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes and you walk out, in open footwear.

How do I care for the toe afterwards?

Keep the dressing on for 24 hours, then wash with soap and water, dry well and cover with clean gauze. Wear sandals or roomy shoes for a few days, elevate the foot if it hurts and take the pain reliever indicated. Come in if there is bleeding that does not stop, pus or increasing pain.

How do I keep it from coming back?

Trim the nail straight across, without rounding the corners or cutting it too short. Wear shoes with room at the toes and socks that do not squeeze. Keep your feet dry and, if they sweat a lot, change socks during the day.

How much does it cost?

The procedure has a direct price, no insurance, in cash or by card; the follow-up check is included. Confirm on WhatsApp at (346) 646-2974.

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually not. Only the portion of the edge digging into the skin is removed, and the nail keeps growing with a normal appearance. Only in very recurrent cases or with deformity is removing a larger part considered.

Yes. You walk out in open or roomy footwear. It is best to reduce activity that day, elevate the foot if it hurts and avoid closed, tight shoes for a few days.

Straight across, without rounding the corners or cutting them very short, and with the nails softened after bathing. Wear shoes with room at the toes; tight shoes are the most frequent cause.
