Subdermal Implant Removal

Contraceptive implant removal in Pasadena, TX: location, local anesthesia, outpatient removal in minutes and aftercare explained. Walk in.

The contraceptive implant in the arm lasts three years; then it must be removed, and many women want it out sooner because of irregular bleeding, mood changes or a wish to become pregnant. At Clínica Hispana Corazón y Vida in Pasadena we remove it under local anesthesia in a short visit, in Spanish and without an appointment.

What does implant removal include?

  • Review of your history and the placement date.
  • Locating the implant by palpation under the skin of the arm.
  • Local anesthesia in the area.
  • A small incision and removal of the implant with sterile instruments.
  • A pressure dressing and written aftercare.
  • Guidance on your next contraceptive method, if you want one.

When should I have it removed?

  • When three years have passed since placement.
  • If you want to become pregnant: fertility returns within a few weeks.
  • If side effects do not improve after the first months.
  • If the provider indicates it because of a new health condition.

You can start another method the same day so you are not left unprotected.

What is the procedure like?

  1. The implant is palpated and the site is marked.
  2. The skin is cleaned and local anesthesia is applied; you feel a brief pinch.
  3. An incision of a few millimeters is made and the implant is removed.
  4. A dressing is applied. The whole procedure usually takes 10 to 20 minutes.

If the implant cannot be felt, an ultrasound is ordered to locate it before attempting removal.

What aftercare do I need?

Keep the pressure dressing on for 24 hours and the wound clean and dry for a few days. A bruise or tenderness in the area for one or two weeks is normal. Come in if there is bleeding that does not stop, pus, fever or increasing pain.

Which method can I use afterwards?

If you want to continue with a long-acting method, we tell you where to have a new implant or device placed. If you prefer something that starts right here, the pill or the injection can begin on the day of removal, so no day is left unprotected.

How much does it cost?

The removal has a direct price, no insurance, in cash or by card. Confirm on WhatsApp at (346) 646-2974 before you come.
