Electrocardiogram (EKG)

Electrocardiogram (EKG) in Pasadena, TX in minutes, painless, interpreted by the provider: rhythm, rate and warning signs. For checkups and exams.

The electrocardiogram records the heart's electrical activity in a few minutes, painlessly and with no preparation. At Clínica Hispana Corazón y Vida in Pasadena we do it in the same visit, the provider interprets it and explains the result in Spanish, without an appointment.

What is the electrocardiogram for?

  • Detecting arrhythmias: irregular, very fast or very slow beats.
  • Looking for signs of a previous heart attack or poor blood flow to the heart.
  • Seeing heart enlargement from years of high blood pressure.
  • Completing work, sports, immigration or pre-surgery exams.
  • Evaluating palpitations, dizziness, fainting or chest pain that has already passed.
  • Monitoring the effect of some medications.

What is the study like?

  1. You lie down and ten adhesive electrodes are placed on the chest, arms and legs.
  2. The machine records for a few seconds; you must stay still and breathe normally.
  3. The electrodes are removed. The whole thing takes under ten minutes.
  4. The provider interprets the tracing, compares it with previous studies if you bring them and explains the result.

No fasting is needed. Avoid lotions on the chest that day and bring your medication list.

What does an EKG not detect?

It records the heart only during the seconds of the study, so an arrhythmia that comes and goes may not show, and a normal EKG does not rule out an artery problem at rest. When in doubt, the provider orders a 24-hour monitor, a stress test or an echocardiogram and refers you to a cardiologist.

When is it an emergency?

Pressing chest pain lasting more than a few minutes, spreading to the arm or jaw, with cold sweat, shortness of breath or fainting: call 911. Do not drive yourself to the clinic in that situation.

What does an abnormal result mean?

A tracing with changes does not always indicate disease: electrode position, nervousness or some medications alter it. The provider interprets it together with your symptoms, blood pressure and lab work, and decides whether to repeat it, start treatment or refer you to a cardiologist.

How much does it cost?

The electrocardiogram has a direct price, no insurance, in cash or by card. Confirm on WhatsApp at (346) 646-2974.
