Stool Tests

Stool test in Pasadena, TX: parasites, intestinal infections, occult blood and general analysis for diarrhea or abdominal pain. Walk in, Spanish spoken.

Diarrhea that lasts more than a few days, abdominal pain with gas, weight loss or a child who is not growing well may have a cause that only a stool test reveals. At Clínica Hispana Corazón y Vida in Pasadena we order the right test, process the sample and explain the result in Spanish, without an appointment.

Which stool tests do we do?

  • Ova and parasite exam: looks for parasites and their eggs; three samples on different days are recommended to increase detection.
  • Stool culture: identifies bacteria such as salmonella or shigella in diarrhea with fever or blood.
  • Fecal occult blood: detects bleeding that cannot be seen, in anemia or as colon screening.
  • General analysis: consistency, fat, mucus and white cells, which point to malabsorption or inflammation.
  • Specific tests, such as giardia antigen or Clostridioides difficile toxin, when the provider orders them.

When is it advisable?

  • Diarrhea for more than three days, or with fever, blood or mucus.
  • Recurring abdominal pain, gas and bloating.
  • Unexplained weight loss, anemia or fatigue.
  • Children with poor appetite, anal itching or slow growth.
  • After travel or contact with contaminated water or food.
  • When a food-handling job or school process requires it.

How do I collect the sample?

  1. Collect the stool in a clean, dry container, without mixing with urine or toilet water.
  2. Transfer a walnut-sized portion to the jar we give you, with the lid tightly closed and your name on it.
  3. Bring it in the same day; if you cannot, keep it in the refrigerator for a maximum of 12 to 24 hours.
  4. For parasites, repeat the process on three different days.

Avoid laxatives, antacids and antibiotics in the days before unless directed; tell us if you take them.

What happens with the result?

The provider reviews it with you and, if there are parasites or a bacterial infection, prescribes treatment; in many cases household members should be treated as well. If there is occult blood, the cause is studied. We tell you the turnaround for each test when we receive the sample.

How much does it cost?

Each test has a direct price, no insurance, in cash or by card. Confirm on WhatsApp at (346) 646-2974.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Stop by the clinic to pick up the jar with instructions, collect the sample without mixing it with urine or water and bring it the same day; if not possible, refrigerate it for a maximum of 12 to 24 hours.

Parasites and their eggs do not appear in every bowel movement. With three samples from different days the chance of detecting them rises a lot; a single negative sample does not rule out infection.

Often yes, especially with pinworms or giardia, which spread between household members. The provider tells you who should be treated and how to wash bedding and hands to avoid reinfection.
