Clinical Laboratory in Pasadena: Blood Tests with Same-Day Results

Which blood and urine tests we run in Pasadena TX, how to prepare (fasting, water, medications), what the most common results mean and when to order them.

A blood test answers in minutes the questions that symptoms take months to reveal: whether sugar is high, whether cholesterol is damaging the arteries, whether the thyroid is working well or whether an infection explains the fatigue. At the lab of Clínica Hispana Corazón y Vida in Pasadena we draw the sample without an appointment and explain the result in Spanish.

Which tests can I get?

  • Complete blood count (CBC): red cells, white cells and platelets. Detects anemia and infections.
  • Metabolic panel: glucose, kidneys (creatinine), liver, electrolytes.
  • Lipid profile: total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides.
  • Hemoglobin A1c: average glucose over the last two to three months.
  • Thyroid (TSH and T4): for fatigue, weight changes or hair loss.
  • Urinalysis and urine culture: urinary infections and protein.
  • Pregnancy tests (hCG) in urine or blood.
  • Sexually transmitted infection tests: HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis.
  • PSA for the prostate and vitamin B12 and D for deficiencies.
  • Tuberculosis (IGRA) and the tests required for immigration and DOT exams.

If you need a test that is not on the list, ask: many are sent to a reference laboratory from the clinic itself.

Do I have to come fasting?

It depends on the test:

TestFasting
Fasting glucoseYes, 8 to 12 hours
Lipid profilePreferably 9 to 12 hours; your provider may order it without fasting
A1c, thyroid, CBC, PSA, infectionsNot needed
UrineNo; bring the first urine of the morning if possible

You may drink water while fasting. Take your medications as usual unless your provider says otherwise, and tell us what you take, because some alter results.

When should I get tested?

  • Once a year as a checkup, even if you feel well.
  • If you have diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol: every three to six months depending on control.
  • With persistent fatigue, thirst, unexplained weight loss or gain, fever that does not go away or repeated infections.
  • Before starting hormone treatment, an IV vitamin drip or a weight plan.
  • When a process requires it: work, school, immigration or a commercial license.

How do I read my results?

The report shows your value next to the laboratory's reference range. These are the most consulted guides:

  • Fasting glucose: under 100 mg/dL is normal; 126 or higher, on two occasions, indicates diabetes.
  • A1c: under 5.7% normal; 6.5% or higher, diabetes.
  • Total cholesterol: ideally under 200 mg/dL; LDL under 100; a higher HDL is better; triglycerides under 150.
  • TSH: most laboratories use an approximate range of 0.4 to 4.0 mIU/L; outside it, the thyroid should be reviewed.
  • Hemoglobin: low suggests anemia, common in women with heavy periods.

An out-of-range value is not a diagnosis by itself. At the visit we interpret it with your symptoms and history, and repeat it when needed.

How long do they take and how much do they cost?

Many basic tests are processed at the clinic and results are usually ready quickly; those sent to an outside laboratory take somewhat longer. We tell you the exact turnaround for each test when we draw the sample and let you know when they are in. Payment is direct, no insurance, in cash or by card; ask for the price beforehand on WhatsApp at (346) 646-2974.
